[Sui Generis]

"What all persons have in common is their uniqueness."
-- Sam Keen & Anne Valley Fox, Telling Your Story

Sui Generis School

Sui Generis School is in its preparatory stages of development. It is not as if there will be a definite course of study to follow. But true to its paradoxical and complementary foundations, there will be a definite structure in what it offers, although it is too early to tell exactly what shape or form that will take. The participatory principle will certainly be a prime element in its nature, structure and goals, and this immediately determines that it will be established by a group of people interested in its function, working together with the community as a whole. Flexibility is likely to be a strong component or inherent quality.

Sui Generis School is essentially part of the community, so much so that it is an integral and invisible part of the community. Learning takes place every moment of our lives and when we truly know and live this, living and learning will have become integrated and this awareness and lifestyle is what the school aims to achieve. As such it will be both invisible and visible at once. But the school is not limited to the community. In our interaction with those outside the community, this way of thinking and living is bound to rub off on those who are open to a new and better way and this potentially has a profound effect on society at large.

Sui Generis School is likely to be of interest to those who feel they can't fully be themselves in our society, who feel they need help in reaching out to others while remaining true to themselves, who would like to support the efforts to promote an understanding of Xenn Polarity and how it sheds light on these matters. It is also likely to be of interest to those who are sensitive to what is happening in the world and know deeply within themselves that there is a better way. They want to work with others to learn about and develop that, as well as to make it a reality.

If this resonates with you, consider how being part of this school may be of help to you. Our efforts are to support the difficult task of balancing two universal complementary needs: 1) to be ourselves, and 2) to be present to and for others. This can also be put in terms of integrating unity and diversity, or "objective" and "subjective", or it could be articulated in many other ways. Doing this lays the necessary and critical groundwork without which all else is built on sand, or worse, quick-sand.

Sui Generis School is a place to learn to:

  • be who we are, and to stop being who we are not.
  • be true to our calling or mission.
  • play -- losing or embodying ourselves in our "work" or destiny or fate, who we are asked or called to be.
  • let go of all we are attached to so we can encounter what was there all the time, but being underneath everything else, we didn’t see it or give it any attention.

The development and formulation of content may include programs for dealing with issues and questions such as the following:

  • What is my "calling" or "real self" or, how do I manifest the light or truth that is within me?
  • How do I be true to myself and balance this with a social consciousness?
  • What is the nature of Xenn Polarity and how does it relate to my life?
  • How can Xenn Polarity make a difference to our life on Earth, and the lives of others?
  • How do I become less inhibited without needlessly offending others?
  • How do I balance and/or integrate individuality with community?
  • How do I support others who want to be themselves but are inhibited in doing so?
  • How is Xenn Polarity related to Systems Thinking, reflexivity and other similar topics?
  • Individual projects such as:
    • research into paradox, reflexivity, self-regulating systems, and the "logic" of Xenn Polarity.
    • applications of Xenn Polarity to education, management, business, psychology, sociology, history, and other established disciplines.
    • projects initiated by faculty or students.
    • newsletters or journals.
    • conferences.
